Wedded Bliss!

So I kind of love weddings... that is probably one of the biggest understatements ever... I absolutely love weddings! I love all that even goes into a wedding! It is definitely one of the most special moments in your life, and I just feel so blessed to share in it!

As you may or may not know, it is Wedding Season! This year alone, Ray and I will be attending approximately 6 weddings with more coming next year ... and I couldn't be more excited! And to honor this wonderful moment in time, I thought what could be better than to share some very special moments with you... moments that I've shared in with those I love! Moments of pure joy, excitement, surprise, and even some moments that were not so planned. Ha! A wedding is more than just one day in time... it also includes all of the special moments shared leading up to the big day. So enjoy some of our moments that we've shared that truly have such a wonderful place in my heart!

Wrap Up Wednesday

I'll be honest, there are definitely some days that feel a lot like this picture... stuck between a rock and a hard place. I think we all have those types of weeks, but the good thing is they come and go... and hopefully they go very quickly. Ha!

But there have been some really great things about this week thus far as well as for those to come... This past Tuesday, Ray and I met up with Kaylan, James, and Mike at The Ginger Man in Dallas for their Tuesday special! It was really just a great time to catch up with great friends!

Today, I have an appointment to get my bridesmaid's dress fitted for the upcoming "Jaylan" or (James and Kaylan) Wedding this next weekend! I can't believe it is almost here and am so excited to share in it:)

In the very near future we also have some fun May Birthdays coming up! A big Happy early Birthday to my amazing sister and brother-n-law couple... Farrah and Ryan Zellner!

We love you with all of our heart and wish you both such a special day. We can't wait to join you all in a few weeks for some fun in the sun, relaxation, and an amazing family vacation.

Love,
Alicia

Life Under a Magnifying Glass: Interview Qs!

I think in our lives we all in some form or fashion feel that we are being viewed under a magnifying glass... and as an HR Director... I do just that. One of my duties in Human Resources is staffing.... this includes the wide range of recruiting, creating and providing job postings for mass search engines, contacting local universities, and of course the ever-loved interview!

For the past three years after graduation, this has been a large part of my work schedule... and because I feel that in today's economy we all have either been through our share or are currently going through the process to better ourself in the work place.

It was through Yahoo that I found a great article about 5 Must Ask Interview Questions provided by the Wallstreet Journal. I felt it was my duty to share those with you.

1. In what ways will this role help you stretch your professional capabilities?
This question is the reversal of the ever so common question... what are your greatest weaknesses? This question would prompt a candidate to describe skills that he/she wants to improve and goals that the individual would like to achieve.

2. What have been your greatest areas of improvement in your career?
This is another question that discusses a person's weaknesses. It allows the interviewee to tell about his/her career histories and ambitions

3. What is the toughest feedback you've ever received and how did you learn from it?
This question shows the ability of the candidate to learn from previous mistakes.

4. What are people likely to misunderstand about you?
This question reveals social intelligence and the ability to understand others and their perceptions as well as to adapt to the situation.

5. If you were giving your new staff a "User's Manual" to you to accelerate their getting to know you process, what would you include in it?
This lets the candidate to reveal his/her work/managerial style.

Definitely try to learn from many of these questions. HR professionals get the same material you do... and know when a red flag pops up. Be you, be personable.... and understand that the job has to be just as good of a fit for you as you are for the position.

Love,

Your HR Prof

Are you ENGAGED?!?!

This Sunday, I was ENGAGED!

On May 2, 2010, The Heights Baptist Church held Engage Sunday, a community wide service project where hundreds if not hopefully thousands go out into the community to serve and share Christ with others.

The honeymooners traveled to Vickery Creek Apartment complex to engage with a ministry called Refugee Resources serving with children and their families. Our services included... passing out breakfast burritos and drinks, playing fun games including soccer, badminton, playing with chalk, bubbles, running 3-legged races... but what these kids taught me will truly stay in my heart for a lifetime!

Jesus Loves You!

To learn more about the Heights Baptist Church and Engage Sunday view here.

It is amazing to know that God truly does have a plan for our lives... that again it may not always be our timing or our chosen path... but it is through us that He truly works His miracles. I saw it on Sunday and through those kids. I think it is so important for us to be reminded of such love and to be thankful for all that we have been given. As sometimes we focus our negativity on what we don't have... maybe we should focus more on what we do. We all have been given a gift... and it is up to us to return such a favor.

Today truly reminded me all that I am thankful for and hope that in return I will be reminded to pay it forward! I hope we all can do that.

Love,
Alicia

Are You a Warrior?!?!

On May 2, 2010 , my husband and his best friends became Warriors ! This past Sunday, our men traveled to Forney, TX to endure a thrill seeker's race filled with difficult challenges, interesting costumes, and absolutely amazing viking gear! They loved absolutely every minute of it!!!

While I sadly could not attend, here are some fun pictures of the boys overcoming the obstacles.

I love my Urban Warrior!
