Texas State Fair Favorites 2014

Our trip to the Texas State Fair this year can best be described by Auby's face in this fun fall picture. I have to say, I think she had a good time.

Last year, I was almost 39 weeks pregnant with this cutie. The State Fair is always a Zellner favorite and I wouldn't miss it for the world. It doesn't hurt that we get free teacher tickets. With that being said, I was beyond excited to share it with Auby this year as this marks our fifth year at the fair and a fun family birthday celebration for our little.

There are a few things that are a State Fair must. Taking pictures by Big Tex and photos of the ferris wheel. We usually ride it every other year. This year it was fun just admiring it with our little lady from below.

We also enjoyed devouring this years fried food creations. We chose 4 of this year's favorites including...
 fried breakfast for dinner...
fried sweet Texas, funnel cake beer, and fried Texas bluebonnet.
We definitely had our fair share of fair food. We were stuffed!
After a lot of eating and a bit of strolling around fair park, we decided to let Auby out to do some State Fair exploring. I never knew that she would be this excited to sit on a tractor. My girl is on the go!

Today was definitely a special celebration of fair food and family fun! From fried food, Big Tex, Ferris Wheel fun, expos and exhibits, free ring cleanings, the children's barn yard, and lots of great sights, we surely had a great afternoon with our fam of three. Until next year's State Fair:)

State Fair Fun 2013

This past Saturday, at almost 39 weeks, Ray and I made our way to the State Fair of Texas. Come rain or shine, with or without baby, I knew that I couldn't miss out on one of my favorite annual Dallas activities. I mean come on, amazing fried fair food? Could you really blame this preggo mama? At 10AM we met our good friends, Erin and Richard Ogle, and made our way around the state fair.

We enjoyed fabulous fried fair food options and tried to catch a few shows. Sadly I mixed up the times, and we found ourselves really early. So we made our way around for more food and fair fun. It did sprinkle a bit, but the skies were fairly clear and the fairgrounds were not packed as I had originally believed since it was opening weekend.

We sampled a few of 2013's winners including fried nutella, fried thanksgiving dinner, and fried king ranch. I have to say that all were good, but I loved the fried king ranch. The nutella was the perfect dessert. But as Ray said he needed a bit more nutella.

At 1PM we found ourselves at the Birds of the World show. It was the one that I had sadly mixed up earlier, but I'm glad we went back as it was super cute.

Big Tex has returned to the State Fair. Last year due to an electrical problem, Big Tex had burned. This year they brought back and new and improved Big Tex. He still looks awkwardly creepy, but again nice to have him back. I thought this grave sight was too perfect for words.

So a big thanks to our sweet friends for making this fair day a fun one! It is amazing to think that next year Miss Aubrey will be joining our fun fair traditions as a one year old!

State Fair of Texas 2012: Sunday Funday

Our Zellner Sunday Funday took place at the State Fair of Texas.
After a morning trip on the dart and many stops later, we met up with our favorite Duke friends to enjoy a fabulous afternoon of fried food Fair fun!

With map in hand and very hungry tummies, we made our way to the designated fried food spots to try out some of this year's award winners. My sister-in-law, Rachel's facebook status, said it best, "About to break the caloric bank at the state fair." And boy was she right! Our fried options included...

Fried Mac and Cheese Sliders and Fried Jambalaya
and of course fried peanut better, jelly, and banana sandwich better known as "the Elvis."

After we had our fill on fried food, we decided to make our way around the park. Becky and Todd found a ride at a Haunted Mansion and decided to partake. They said it was super cheesy but really enjoyed it:)
I am all for Halloween and Haunted theme houses as this was such a super cute picture... but those clowns behind them were super creepy.

Our group then made our way to the Ferris Wheel. Since this was Stephanie's and our family's first time at the fair it was determined that they needed to enjoy a Texas-sized ferris wheel with a view.

After the ferris wheel, we went to see a craft show, the petting zoo, and dine on some fabulous red velvet funnel cake.

At about 4:00 we were pretty faired out, and decided to make our way home.
Our Zellner family would be leaving shortly for their trip back to Houston, and it was time to say our good-byes.

I sure love my family and friends and am so thankful for Sunday Fundays just like this:)

Fun at the Fair!

This afternoon the husband and I traveled to Fair Park to enjoy a day at the State Fair of Texas... 125 years of fabulous fun and delicious fried food. We enjoyed petting zoos, a 200 foot ferris wheel, human-sized pin wheels, delicious fried foods, and fun family photo opts.

Happy fair days from Dallas, TX.

From fried bubble gum, walking tacos, fried buffalo chicken in a flapjack, to fried pineapple upside down cake, fried cookie dough, and an el bananarito... we ate our weight in fair food.

We sampled 5 of the 8 listed fried foods!

... but with food that looks and tastes this good... it was so worth it! (well most of the food was... toward the end, I was so tired of that fabulously fried batter and not wanting to think what my caloric intake was for the day).

What would a fair day be without a
Texas sized ferris wheel?!?

Amazing Dallas Views!

What a fabulously fun day at the fair! This is just another reason I love this amazing city!
