Money Hungry & a Little Plain Jane

I am not going to lie. Last night after Ray and I returned home from a fun celebratory dinner at On The Border (yes I did pick OTB out of a long list of places... ha!) we came across this show... Money Hungry on VH1. Have any of you heard of it? It appears to be very similar to The Biggest Loser and I want to say (please do not quote me on this) but I do believe it was created by the same producers... nothing that a little google cannot figure out for me later... so I will update when I have the answer.... but of course as I am a HUGE fan of the show I decided that I would dive straight into the story line and see if this would be another motivational weight loss show that I could indulge myself in. Honestly, from the moment I heard the premise I was a bit upset. Sadly it didn't keep me from spending the full hour watching it... but I was just a bit disgusted at the thought of it. These people ... while partially do want to lose the weight to become healthy... are predominately motivated... as you can probably guess... by MONEY! Now please do not get me wrong. I am not trying to say those on Biggest Loser do not want to win the final prize and become THE BIGGEST LOSER; however, I feel that not only the motivation but the way in which individuals were chosen, taught, and change their lives will be a bit different.

Each team pays $10,000 to be on the show. At the end of the week, the couple that has lost the least amount of weight (body fat percentage) will go home and loose their money. The second to last team will receive their entry fee back while the final team will win $100,000.

Now we have only watched the first episode... but within that time these individuals only goal was to lose weight. They did not have a dietitian sit down with them to discuss eating or anyone counsel on their weight issues. They did have a trainer that came in and showed what work out equipment to use... so maybe this will change in future episodes. I simply agree with Jilian and Bob. For me you have to find the root of the problem or once lost you'll pack the pounds right back on. So I guess I'm still a little iffy about this show. We shall see. Anyway if anyone out there has started watching it... let me know your thoughts. Maybe I'm viewing this all wrong.... maybe the next episode will provide me a little more emotional connection and understanding. Currently I just feel like they are not in it to be healthy but are in it to win it I will agree.... getting healthy is such an amazing thing... I just think the motivation should be a little more internal and for more healthful reasons.

Anyway... enough of that soap box for today. So this afternoon I went to lunch with three very sweet ladies from work including Sally, Whitney, and Jessica. They had just opened up a Jersey Mike's next to the office so we decided to check things out. While in line, I was in the process of making some decisions.... shall it be turkey or chicken... I know pretty lame. Then the guy across the counter asked what I was having. After I gave him what must have been a sort of dumbfounded look I simply said... I'll have what she's having... since both Sally and I had been discussing the turkey. What I didn't know is that she changed her mind and had gotten the Italian... number 13 on the menu. Oh and by the way it was super good. So two thumbs up for that sandwich. But that's not the point I'm getting at. The guy then asked if I wanted the usual veggies... including everything from lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and then of course smothered in red wine vinaigrette. Of course this is not me. I pretty much always ask for lettuce and a little bit of light mayo. He then smiled and said... "You know how a person orders a sandwich says a lot about them." He then laughed and said I was just a plain jane... a comment I had honestly heard many times in my lifetime. He then immediately apologized and probably had wondered if I had been offended. I laughed it off and replied, "It's true." I guess in the past this probably would have phased me. But coming to terms I am who I am and I know what I like... regardless how plain:) So I would like to go ahead and ask freedictionary.com to maybe remove dull from part of its definition... maybe people like me know just what they want:) hehe.

So anyway on that note I hope you all have such a wonderful weekend whether it is filled with tons of activities or just a plain jane one;)

Will You Make the Grade?!?!

I honestly never believed I would be saying this word ever again... "homework" unless it applied to our children in the way off future. But I am and I'm kind of excited! I will say though that it has been a huge mindset change. I used to study anytime of day and had the energy to do so. Now it has been kind of difficult to come home from work and change my thinking cap... (wow) ... and start my online classes. I technically have 27 lessons to take. Sometimes I wonder if I too "am smarter than a 5th grader" ha! But hopefully I will make the grade!!!

Things are going by insanely fast. Over the past few days there have been several changes that I will be excited to report soon. So definitely check for updates. Sometimes I just have to remind myself that it's never too late to make changes in your life... it's about following your passions. So I wish you well this week and again will be posting more updates soon. Until then... you'll probably catching me studying!

August Updates!

As I typically say, these months are absolutely flying by. It is amazing to think that while we do have some time left this summer it is crazy that fall is almost upon us. With that being said and all that is going on... I would love to do another monthly update/happenings!

Here goes...
1. You may or may not have been aware... but our dryer has been "broken" for about three weeks now... So in good news... WE ARE GETTING A NEW DRYER TODAY! Laundry Party anyone?!?!
2. We want to thank the Dukes for watching the puppies this past weekend while we were in Austin! You guys are lifesavers!
3. Ray and I picked up some Dimples Cupcakes yesterday on our return from our Daycation in Austin... sadly we were too stuffed and too tired to eat them... so we will be enjoying them when we get home today... after that both of us are on a diet... healthy food only:)
4. My birthday is one month from tomorrow. Hello 26!
5. This Saturday marks the group runs at White Rock for World Vision.
6. My parents will be in town this upcoming weekend for a visit.
7. Classes start August 14, 2010. I'll be spending some good quality time in Grand Prairie for the next ten weeks.
8. Our next wedding isn't until September 18th. Congrats Daniela and Robert... it is getting so close:) How exciting!
9. Kaylan starts her first day at her new job in Tuscon, AZ today. I sure wish her all the luck and love in the world:) I know she and her hubster will do amazing!
10. I'm super excited about Grapefest this year in Grapevine. Ray and I have never been but do look forward to potentially smashing grapes with the tosies.
11. Ray and I will be traveling back to Sugar Land early September. It'll be great to see both the Waldrup and Zellner Families:)
12. This past Saturday, we enjoyed a great breakfast with the Fants and Baby B after the boy's monthly half marathon. I love all of Bryson's new tricks. He is such a cutie!

The Pry Wedding, Family Fun, & Daycation w/ the Hubs!

This past weekend was such a fun time of celebration, love, and family fun!

On Sunday, Ray and I traveled to Austin to help celebrate the marriage of my youngest cousin, Danny, to his bride Jessica. They were married in Dripping Springs, TX at the Terrace Country Club. What a special time with family and friends. Here are just a few of the wonderful moments we shared including... fun family photo opts, an out door wedding, delicious food and drinks, a very large Longhorn symbol... Ray being fully ready to help saw off horns if necessary, photo booth photo shots with interesting attire, and dancing! I'll just let the pictures speak for themselves:) Do know we did not all plan to wear blue... great minds just think alike:)

Daycation in Austin!
After a wonderful time celebrating with family, Ray and I decided to have a Daycation in Austin! While we had wanted to take a trip to some of the local wineries... we had discovered that many were closed on Mondays. So we decided to take a trip around Austin to see some of the sites and dine on some of the local food. Enjoy our moments!

After a trip around the Capitol and local grounds, Ray and I decided to stop for some local grub. We of course ventured to a really tasty Mexican Food Restaurant in Uptown.

Due to the summer heat, we did the next bit of exploring in the car with A/C of course! We drove around the different areas from down town, uptown, the Longhorn Campus and noticed all the wonderful qualities the city offered. It was nice to see a few maroon shirts out there... but still a fun trip to the city and Daycation with the hubs!
